Education & skill training
Shikshit mission
Shikshit is the sanskrit word for educated. Therefore, it embodies our vision for educating the masses living in the slums to broaden their horizon and help them lead meaningful and prosperous lives. It can be divided into two initiatives, BAMBI And Hunarshala.
BAMBI
After the successful summer camp, we found enough footprint within the slums. Post Summer camp, our team got assembled along with our volunteers just to cherish the success and discuss the feedback.
In the due course of the meeting, sumit initiated the discussion on further scope of the project and focus areas. It triggered a mini brainstorming session. Each one came up with ambitious ideas such as tree plantation, ambulance Service, generic Medical Store, fitness centre and so on.
Some of us even suggested starting a Sahyog School. Even Though, few ideas were far fetched, each one passionately defended their ideas with all their domain knowledge. Sahil, one of the calm volunteers, smiling innocently and nodding for each of those ideas.
However, it was evident that he got few words to speak. Shashi, after keenly observing Sahil for a long time, insisted him to speak up. Sahil, started with an hesitating voice, said “Bhayya!! Hume in sabse jyada ek tution center ki zarooth hai, jaha humare yahe ke bacche padh sake” (Brother!! We need a tuition center more than anything else you mentioned.
So that kids from my slums can study there). Though Sahil’s voice was hesitant, it carried enough weight to influence and convince all of us present there. The opinion tendered by Sahil was not only a way forward for us to work but also a great learning and self-realization that “Unhe vo maat do jo tum de sakte ho.
Balki, vo do jo unki zarooth h” (Do offer them what they require rather than giving what we can)
Education is the bedrock of a strong and civil society that is capable of functioning efficiently, both economically and professionally. It is the basic right of every individual to get quality education.
Bambi is a unique effort from us towards the cause elderly women’s education who were otherwise left out. Since they cannot go back to school due to family obligations, they are allowed a similar learning atmosphere where we take a holistic learning approach by imparting them all the necessary education that they might have missed out on.
Unfortunately, A lot of people miss out on early and secondary education, especially women. This leads to a continuous cycle of intellectual darkness, which further hampers their chances of economic upliftment.
We are flexible with our teaching methodology, which allows them to learn them at their own pace. This gives them confidence to face challenges out in the open as also impart knowledge to their children. Since mother is the first school for a child.
We have a well stocked library with crowdsourced books of all types and genres, ranging from Literature to maths and sciences.
Bambi has some of the best teachers , including guest faculty from IIT.All of them are highly accomplished in their professional careers and have a sound understanding of learners’ psychology.
Bambi has a dedicated learning centre with definite class timings to imitate a class so that they enjoy the whole learning process.
Bambi integrates education from all the classes into a common repository, and divides it chunks of small goals to be accomplished over a certain specified period of time.
Some of our highlights from the regular Bambi classes can be found on the youtube videos with the same name. They give a glimpse of what it’s like to be in one of the classes.
Bambi is a solid approach towards women empowerment that is the basis of a well functioning society.
Spread the word around you and if interested, you can also refer such women to come join Bambi.
HUNARSHALA
Hunarshala is a skill enhancement and training drive, similar to a bootcamp, in which we train people in employable skills to better equip them for the job market or for self employment opportunities.
